The Compendium was a legendary shield which belonged to the Roman general Agrippa during the 1st century BCE. Adorned with a lion's roaring face painted in red on white background, the shield was both terrifying as well as useful. In 47 BCE, the Medjay, Bayek of Siwa claimed the shield for himself after assassinating Agrippa in the Kyrenaika Roman Citadel. Assassin's Creed: Origins The lack of a shield in Odyssey is still inexcusable. We know that now: it wasn't an omission because the gameplay mechanics didn't allow it, but because they reserved it for Valhalla. Just like the story of the helmet disappearing from the cutscenes, we could see that it wasn't because of the bugs during the romance's cutscenes.
It's an okay shield for travelling (mounted) because bandits who ambush Bayek will use arrows when he tries to get away. That's where the level III ranged resistance comes in handy. However, you will acquire a shield (two if you have CotP) with level IV ranged resistance later in the game. Damage absorbtion is a bogus perk imho.
*UPDATE - It's been brought to my attention, that you only need the 2 bows, 2 melee weapons, outfit, mount, and shield to be legendary to get the trophy. So
Parry/dodge> Get a hit or two in> Reset for next dodge/parry> Rinse and repeat. Been working pretty well for me so far, dodging behind them means you for sure get hits in, dodge staying in front has a smaller window but it is there as long as its off there attack :) #3.
